Rep Rendon to lead special panel for House committee recommendations

Bruce Rendon has been recognized for his leadership qualities with an appointment from Speaker-elect Kevin Cotter to lead the 98th Legislature’s Committee on Committees for the Michigan House.Rendon, who is entering his third and final term as a state representative for the 103rd House District, will chair the panel that recommends House member committee assignments by matching lawmakers’ experience and interests with committee work that best utilizes their knowledge.“It’s an honor to have been chosen for this special assignment,” said Rendon, R-Lake City. “I thank my fellow lawmakers for putting their trust in me and providing another opportunity to contribute to our leadership team.”The temporary committee on committees is charged with selecting committee chairs and Republican members of standing and appropriation committees for the 2015-2016 legislative session.“Though it is only November, we want to lay the groundwork that will enable us to begin work immediately upon beginning the new term in January,” said Cotter, R-Mount Pleasant. “I am entrusting colleagues who have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to hard work and a firm understanding of the details of the legislative process to make recommendations for next term. As I said the day I was elected as the next Speaker, this is no time to coast; we need to keep our foot on the gas.”Other members serving on the Committee on Committees will be Reps. Phil Potvin, R-Cadillac; Ray Franz, R-Onekama; Andrea LaFontaine, R-Columbus; Ed McBroom, R-Vulcan; Al Pscholka, R-Stevensville; and Peter Pettalia, R-Presque Isle, as well as Reps.-Elect Jim Tedder of Clarkston and Dr. Hank Vaupel of Fowlerville.Committee assignments are expected to be announced in January.
